GreatUniHack aims to provide the participants with a safe and supportive environment throughout the duration of the event. We expect all participants to follow the rules outlined in this document. The following Code of Conduct is loosely based on the one maintained by the Manchester Metropolitan University, whose premises you’re going to occupy.

The following actions are regarded as a breach of the Code of Conduct:

  1. The possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages.
  2. The supply of illegal drugs or any substance that has a similar effect to illegal drugs.
  3. Disorderly, threatening, bullying, or offensive behaviour or language.
  4. Any action that could potentially cause a health and safety concern on the premises.
  5. Any behaviour that damages the relationship or reputation of any party involved in organising the event with its local communities, as evidenced by complaints from residents, residents’ groups, local representatives or the police.
  6. Any behaviour that damages, or that has the potential to damage, the relationship or reputation of any party involved in organising the event with external organisations and groups.
  7. Disruption of, or improper interference with, the academic, administrative, sporting, social or other activities that might potentially be taking place at the same time as the event and in its close proximity.
  8. Abusive behaviour or language, harassment or bullying of any kind, towards a member of staff by any means.
  9. Any interference with fire detectors, fire alarms or fire extinguishing equipment.
  10. Damage to, defacement of, the property of any party involved in organising the event, whether caused intentionally or recklessly.
  11. Breaches of any other codes, policies or regulations adopted by the Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Manchester, and the Students’ Union.
  12. Abusive language used about others, or abusive behaviour towards others, on the grounds of their age, disability, gender, gender identity, pregnancy, maternity, race, religion, belief, or sexual orientation.
  13. Taking the property of any party involved in organising the event without their permission.
  14. The possession or use of illegal drugs or any substance that has a similar effect to illegal drugs.
  15. Other behaviour that constitutes a potential criminal offence of relevance to the event or to the perpetrator’s standing as its participant.
  16. Physical violence towards others, or the threat of physical violence.
  17. Behaviour that compromises the reputation of the event.
  18. Making unwanted remarks of sexual nature.
  19. Engaging in a sexual act involving the staff or other participants without their consent.
  20. Attempting to force or coerce others, with or without their knowledge, to consume alcohol, illegal substances or any other substance that has a similar effect to illegal substances.
